Oyo Govt Rescues Poly Ibadan Students After Gas Inhalation Incident
The Oyo State government has rescued and provided medical care for 10 students of The Polytechnic Ibadan who collapsed after inhaling a poisonous substance on Tuesday. The students, from the Science Laboratory and Technology Department, were rushed to Ring Road State Hospital and the University College Hospital (UCH) after emergency response teams intervened.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred after a test when a fight broke out between two students. During the altercation, an unknown choking substance was released, causing several students to lose consciousness. Authorities suspect it was sprayed by one of the individuals involved in the dispute.
Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, personally visited the students at the hospital, confirming they were stable and receiving proper medical attention. She urged the institution to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure those responsible are held accountable.
Dr Ajetunmobi also emphasized the importance of sensitization programs to prevent similar incidents, stressing the need for students to avoid violent confrontations and actions that could endanger lives. The rector of The Polytechnic Ibadan, Dr Taiwo, commended the government’s swift response and vowed to identify and punish the culprits.
