CPC Leaders Reaffirm Loyalty to President Tinubu’s APC Ahead of 2027 Election

Ahead of the 2027 general election, hundreds of prominent members of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) have reiterated their unwavering loyalty to the administration of President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC). The group, led by former Nasarawa State Governor, Senator Tanko Al-Makura, addressed the media in Abuja on Thursday to clarify their position following speculations and rumors suggesting that they had abandoned the APC.

Al-Makura’s statement came in response to the actions of a faction of the CPC, led by former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, who is aligning with opposition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. This opposition group has been working to thwart President Tinubu’s bid for a second term.

Reflecting on the history of the CPC, Al-Makura reminded the press of the pivotal role the party played in the formation of the APC, which helped bring President Muhammadu Buhari to power in 2015 after defeating then-President Goodluck Jonathan. He stressed that as co-founders of the APC, the CPC members remain dedicated to supporting President Tinubu’s administration.

“We are here to reaffirm our commitment to the ideals that brought us together in 2013,” Al-Makura said. “We want to set the record straight and send a clear message to Nigerians that the former CPC majority stakeholders remain strong, united, and deeply loyal to the APC and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

He further emphasized that the CPC bloc stands firm within the APC, a party they helped establish through significant sacrifices and patriotism.

In the course of the press conference, Al-Makura urged any aggrieved members within the bloc to engage in dialogue, patience, and perseverance to resolve their concerns within the APC framework.

Hon. Farouk Adamu Aliyu, the former minority leader of the House of Representatives, also reaffirmed that former President Buhari continues to fully support President Tinubu, despite claims from El-Rufai suggesting otherwise.

Prominent figures who attended the briefing alongside Al-Makura included the Governor of Katsina State, Umar Dikko Radda, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Bello Masari, and Brigadier General Buba Marwa, the chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). Other members of the CPC, such as National Vice Chairman of the APC North West, Garba Datti Muhammed, and Senators Lanre Tejiosho, Abu Ibrahim, and Umar Kurfi were also present.
