Nigerian singer and music executive, Bankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, has shed light on how he discovered the megastar Wizkid, debunking speculations surrounding their initial encounter. Contrary to popular belief, Banky W clarified that he stumbled upon Wizkid’s talent not through social media but rather in the studio.
Addressing misconceptions, Banky W emphasized that an old tweet from Wizkid urging him to sign him was merely a jest. He revealed that he had already signed Wizkid at the time of the tweet and they were simply engaging in playful banter on social media.
Letting God and Helpers Find You
In a heartfelt message, Banky W urged fans to focus on being productive and letting God and their helpers find them in action. Reflecting on recent Twitter buzz surrounding their supposed Twitter exchange, Banky W clarified the context, highlighting that their collaboration had already been underway for about a year prior.
Banky W reminisced about the moment he first encountered Wizkid’s music while listening to unsigned artists. He underscored Wizkid’s dedication and talent, recalling instances where Wizkid had already collaborated with notable artists like M.I before joining his label.
Rise to Stardom
Banky W’s signing of Wizkid to Empire Mates Entertainment in 2009 marked the beginning of Wizkid’s meteoric rise to fame. With hits like “Holla at Your Boy” from his debut album “Superstar” in 2011, Wizkid quickly became a household name in the Nigerian music scene.
Departure from EME
After achieving considerable success under EME, Wizkid eventually departed from the label following the release of his sophomore album “Ayo” in 2014, paving the way for his solo career.
