ExxonMobil Worker Killed In Akwa Ibom Gas Flaring Accident
An employee of ExxonMobil has been killed and another injured in a gas flaring accident, which occurred at the processing unit of the Qua Iboe Terminal in the Ibeno Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. It was gathered that the incident occurred on Sunday when the victims, both supervisors at the QIB processing unit, decided to light up the gas flare, which exploded. A source on Wednesday said the victims, who were to turn on the plant that was shut for maintenance purposes, allegedly flouted all safety procedures. While confirming the incident, the company’s Government Relations Adviser, Public and Government Affairs, said, “Two employees were injured and both of them received immediate medical attention. One of the employees has passed away. “We are saddened by this unfortunate incident and are providing support to the family.
