Wizkid Becomes First African Artist to Surpass 10 Billion Spotify Streams
Nigerian superstar Wizkid has become the first African artist to surpass 10 billion streams on Spotify, marking a historic milestone for both his career and the global influence of Afrobeats. This achievement reflects over a decade of international hits and collaborations with some of the world’s biggest artists.
His collaboration with Drake on the global hit One Dance contributed nearly 4 billion streams alone, while Essence, featuring Tems, added more than 334 million streams. Wizkid has also worked with Beyoncé, Chris Brown, and other major international stars, helping bring Nigerian music to a global audience.
This milestone places him ahead of fellow Nigerian artists Burna Boy, who has 9.08 billion streams, and Davido, with 3.24 billion, further cementing Wizkid’s position as a leading figure in Afrobeats.
Wizkid recently returned to Lagos, celebrating the milestone quietly, focusing on his music and upcoming projects. Fans and industry observers have hailed this as a defining moment for African music, highlighting the growing global reach and popularity of Afrobeats.
The achievement demonstrates not only Wizkid’s enduring appeal but also the increasing international recognition of Nigerian artists and African music on streaming platforms worldwide.
