Tacha Sparks Debate After Saying Nigerians Are Highly Prejudiced

Reality TV star and influencer Natasha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, has stirred widespread reactions on social media after making a bold statement about discrimination among Nigerians.

The former Big Brother Naija housemate said that Nigerians can be highly prejudiced, even comparing the level of discrimination within the country to racism. Her comments quickly gained attention and sparked debate across X (formerly Twitter), with many users sharing mixed opinions.

Tacha made the statement while reacting to a trending discussion involving chess master Tunde Onakoya. The conversation started after Onakoya shared a video of himself playing chess in traditional attire outside the famous Louvre Museum in Paris.

In his post, Onakoya described the moment as historic, stating that he was the first Nigerian to play chess at the Louvre. While many people praised him for promoting Nigerian culture on an international stage, others questioned the claim, noting that the location was a public space and not officially part of the museum’s activities.

Reacting to the criticism, Tacha expressed frustration with how Nigerians treat one another online. She stated that people are often quick to judge, dismiss, or attack others, especially on social media platforms.

According to her, although she has personally experienced prejudice, she believes the level of negativity Nigerians show each other online is even worse. She suggested that if given similar power or opportunity, some Nigerians might behave even more harshly toward others.

Despite the controversy, Tacha praised Onakoya for how he handled the situation. She noted that he remained calm despite the backlash and stood his ground, even though he has faced criticism online in the past.

She also pointed out that many online trolls tend to react negatively to other people’s success. According to her, some individuals become bitter when they see others achieving positive results or gaining recognition in real life.

The debate has since continued online, with many users agreeing with Tacha’s views while others disagreed, arguing that her statement was too general. The conversation has once again brought attention to the issue of online behavior and social attitudes in Nigeria’s digital space.
