Police Deny Arrest of AGN President Emeka Rollas
The Nigeria Police Force Zone 9 headquarters in Umuahia has refuted reports claiming that Emeka Rollas, the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), was arrested. The command clarified the situation in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, SP Iheanetu Bruno Chukwudera, dismissing the allegations as misleading and unfounded.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on January 9, 2025, during a meeting attended by Rollas in Umuahia. A heated argument ensued, prompting police intervention to restore order and prevent the situation from escalating.
“The attention of Zone 9 headquarters, Umuahia, has been drawn to false and misleading reports circulating online, alleging that the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria was arrested by officers of the Zonal Command,” Chukwudera stated.
He explained that the meeting’s proximity to the Zone 9 headquarters led to the involved parties being brought to the command for de-escalation. The intervention was aimed at resolving the dispute amicably.
The statement also noted that Emeka Rollas had previously petitioned the command regarding concerns about certain AGN members. These concerns were under investigation, and the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Suleiman Yusuf, mediated a discussion among the aggrieved parties.
After the meeting, all parties returned home peacefully. SP Chukwudera emphasized that no arrests or detentions occurred during or after the incident.
This clarification aims to dispel rumours and reaffirm that the police acted solely to maintain peace and order during the contentious meeting.
