Opposition Can Defeat Tinubu in 2027 with New Party Strategy Says Ardo

Former Adamawa governorship candidate, Umar Ardo, has said that President Bola Tinubu can be defeated in the 2027 elections if the opposition comes together and creates a new political party. Ardo made this statement during an interview on Arise TV’s Morning Show.

He explained that the opposition, including leaders like Atiku Abubakar and Nasir El-Rufai, needs a strong and united platform to have any real chance of winning. He said forming a new political party would be better than merging with an old one, which may have a weak image or past issues.

According to Ardo, two committees were already set up by the coalition. One looked into joining an existing party, while the other explored creating a new one. After reviewing the reports, he believes starting a new party is the better option.

“If all the opposition groups come together and agree to build a new party, defeating President Tinubu in 2027 is very possible,” Ardo said. He added that the opposition must choose the right path and strategy to succeed.

When asked about recent disagreements within the coalition, especially involving some Jigawa delegates, Ardo said such tensions are normal at the start of any political movement. He explained that the main disagreement is about whether to join an existing party or create a new one. His group, the League of Northern Democrats (LND), supports forming a new party.

Ardo also pointed out that Tinubu only won the 2023 election with support from less than 38% of registered voters. He said this shows that most Nigerians either didn’t vote or didn’t feel represented. With over 90 million people registered to vote, Ardo believes there’s strong interest in political change.

He admitted that building a new party from scratch can be expensive and difficult. But with solid support from the coalition and the public, Ardo believes the challenge can be overcome. A fresh political platform could attract millions of Nigerians looking for real change.

In closing, Ardo encouraged the opposition to stay united, focus on the people’s needs, and create a strong and credible alternative for the 2027 elections.
