Odumodublvck Claims Age Falsification Is Common in Nigerian Music Industry

Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck has spoken out about what he describes as a widespread but rarely discussed practice in the Nigerian music industry—age falsification.

Speaking during a livestream conversation with streamer Enzo, the rapper alleged that many artistes, both upcoming and established, often lower their real ages in order to appear more marketable to record labels and industry investors.

According to him, the practice is driven by the belief that younger artistes are more attractive to the music business, as they are seen to have longer career potential and better commercial value. This perception, he said, has influenced how some performers present themselves publicly.

Odumodublvck explained that this industry pressure has quietly shaped decisions behind the scenes, with many artistes adjusting personal details such as age to increase their chances of signing record deals or securing endorsement opportunities.

He, however, stated that he has chosen not to follow such trends. The rapper noted that he prefers to focus on his music and talent rather than conforming to industry expectations about age or image.

In his words, “I am 32 and I don’t bother myself to get things right at this age,” suggesting that authenticity and craft matter more to him than fitting into industry standards.

His comments have sparked conversations online about image, pressure, and authenticity in the entertainment industry, especially in a market where young talent is often prioritised.

The discussion adds to ongoing debates about how the music industry shapes identity and the lengths some artistes may go to in order to achieve success.
