OAP Osi Blasts 2Baba’s Fiancée Hon Natasha over Wrong Use of ‘Née’ in Viral Video

Popular Nigerian on-air personality, Osi Suave, has stirred up a social media storm after correcting Hon. Natasha Irobosa Osawaru, the woman many now know as 2Baba’s fiancée, for wrongly using the word “née” during a public introduction in the Edo State House of Assembly.

In the now-viral clip, Natasha introduced herself as “Hon. Natasha Irobosa Osawaru née Idibia,” implying that she was born with the surname Idibia — a name tied to the music legend 2Baba, whose real name is Innocent Idibia. The use of the word confused many, as “née” is typically used to show a woman’s maiden name before marriage, not the name of her fiancé or husband.

Osi Suave didn’t hold back. Posting on Twitter, he bluntly wrote, “Look at this illiterate. Née means born. Meaning, your maiden name or the name you had at birth before you changed it due to marriage.”

His statement quickly sparked reactions, with Nigerians online jumping into a heated grammar lesson and dragging Natasha for not understanding the term. Many also used the opportunity to comment on her relationship with 2Baba, which has been a hot topic for months, especially following rumors of problems in 2Baba’s marriage with Annie Idibia.

While Natasha, who serves as the Deputy Majority Leader in the Edo House of Assembly, has not publicly responded, Twitter users had plenty to say. Some mocked her grammar, others slammed the chaotic scene from the plenary, and a few still tried to defend her relationship with 2Baba.

Some netizens corrected the grammar blunder by suggesting the correct form should have been, “Hon. Natasha Idibia née Osawaru,” if she were actually married to 2Baba. Others expressed disbelief that someone in public office could make such a mistake during an official introduction.

The drama has only added fuel to the already controversial story of Natasha and 2Baba’s rumored romance. Earlier this year, 2Baba called her his “future wife,” igniting backlash from fans of Annie Idibia, his long-time partner.

What does née mean and why is Natasha being criticised?
“Née” is a French word meaning “born,” and it’s used to show a woman’s original surname before marriage. Natasha used it incorrectly by saying “née Idibia,” suggesting she was born with 2Baba’s surname, which is not the case.

The video has since gone viral, leaving many wondering whether public figures should take grammar more seriously, especially when speaking in official settings. For now, Natasha remains silent on the matter, but the internet clearly hasn’t moved on.
