Ned Nwoko Dismisses Regina Daniels’ Negative Drug Test, Calls It “Temporary Abstinence”
Senator Ned Nwoko has reacted to the negative drug test result recently shared by his wife, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, describing it as “temporary abstinence” rather than proof of recovery or sobriety. Nwoko insisted that previous positive results from independent clinics remain valid and cannot be ignored.
The controversy began on Wednesday when Regina Daniels publicly shared the result of a drug test she voluntarily took, which came back negative. The actress stated that the test was meant to clear her name from allegations of ongoing substance abuse that have surfaced during her highly publicized marital disputes with Nwoko and co-wife Laila Charani.
Reacting to the result, Nwoko emphasised that short-term abstinence does not equate to sobriety or full rehabilitation. “Temporary abstinence is not recovery. You can avoid using drugs for a short period, but that does not mean the underlying issues are resolved,” he said.
Nwoko also referenced earlier drug tests conducted by independent clinics in both Nigeria and South Africa, which reportedly returned positive results. He said these tests provide a more accurate assessment of Daniels’ past drug use. According to Nwoko, these findings prompted him to recommend that Daniels undergo private rehabilitation, an option she allegedly declined at the time.
The ongoing dispute between the couple intensified after a court granted Nwoko custody of their children, placing Daniels under a court-supervised therapy program to ensure her well-being and compliance with the rehabilitation process. Nwoko argued that the negative test result does not guarantee adherence to long-term treatment or responsible behaviour.
Daniels has admitted to prior use of ecstasy but has consistently denied being addicted to drugs. She maintains that her past experiences do not define her current lifestyle, which she insists is focused on her family and professional career.
The public disagreement has drawn widespread media attention since October 2025, highlighting not only personal conflicts within the family but also raising broader questions about accountability, recovery, and verification of drug rehabilitation in high-profile cases. Observers note that the issue underscores the challenges of proving long-term sobriety and the role of legal oversight in ensuring compliance with court-mandated therapy.
Nwoko’s latest comments suggest that the debate over Daniels’ substance use is far from over, with both parties presenting conflicting evidence regarding her sobriety. Legal experts anticipate that the court may continue monitoring the situation to ensure that the therapy and rehabilitation requirements are fully enforced.
