Kogi State Polytechnic Matriculates 4,591 New Students for 2025/2026 Session

Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has officially matriculated 4,591 new students into its seven schools and 57 academic programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session. The ceremony, held on Thursday, marked the institution’s 33rd matriculation event and showcased its growing national appeal.

The Rector, Prof. Salisu Usman, highlighted the polytechnic’s expansion, noting that students now come from 33 states, up from 26 in the previous academic session. He attributed the institution’s progress to the support of Governor Ahmed Ododo, who has implemented security upgrades, including fencing and CCTV installations, and improved staff welfare initiatives.

Prof. Usman emphasized that these measures have created a conducive working environment, with enhanced infrastructure and security. He also noted the benefits of the State Health Insurance Scheme and tax exemptions for staff.

Under his leadership, the polytechnic has introduced 19 new programmes, expanding academic offerings by 33 per cent to align with national needs. He commended the dedication of staff and encouraged new students to uphold academic integrity and discipline.

“We’ve seen growth in our national outlook, with representation from 33 States of the federation. Today, we welcome 4,591 students into seven Schools and 57 programmes. Our gender balance is encouraging, with 52 per cent male and 48 per cent female students, with the School of Management Studies recording the highest enrolment,” he said.

Prof. Usman also stressed the institution’s commitment to student-centred governance, transparency, and leadership development. He urged students to seize available opportunities and bring honour to their families and the nation.

He added, “To the new students, congratulations! We’re committed to providing a student-centred environment with modern facilities. We’ll uphold discipline, transparency, and zero tolerance for social vices. Our philosophy is institutional renewal, focusing on academic stability, programme expansion, and security enhancement. We’ve introduced market-driven programmes and strengthened accreditation. Together, we’ll reposition Kogi State Polytechnic as a reference point for excellence in Nigeria.”

The matriculation ceremony reflects the polytechnic’s continued dedication to academic growth, national integration, and providing students with a secure and supportive learning environment.
