How Nollywood Veteran Fabian Adibe Passed Away After Brief Illness
Veteran Nollywood actor, Chief Fabian Adibe, has passed away after a short illness. The news of his death was first shared on Wednesday by celebrity journalist and founder of the Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards, Seun Oloketuyi, through social media.
At first, the cause of his death was not disclosed. However, on Thursday, his daughter, Nkechi Adibe, confirmed in an emotional tribute on Instagram that her father died after battling a brief illness. She described him as the “best father anyone could think of” and prayed for his soul to rest in peace.
Born on December 1, 1943, in Owerri, Imo State, Fabian Adibe was one of the most respected figures in Nollywood. He studied Theatre Arts at the University of Ibadan, where he received professional training in acting. This academic background later shaped his career in the Nigerian movie industry.
Adibe’s big break came in 1987 when he starred in the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s iconic novel “Things Fall Apart.” His outstanding performance in the series made him a household name and placed him firmly in Nigeria’s cultural history.
Beyond that role, Fabian Adibe enjoyed a successful acting career that spanned decades. He appeared in several Nollywood classics, including Broken Plate, Evil Desire, Peacemaker, Oke Belgium, The Prince and The Princess, Honourable, Billionaires Club, and Fire On The Mountain.
