Garnacho Raises Doubts Over Man United Future After Europa League Final Snub

Alejandro Garnacho has hinted that he might leave Manchester United after being left out of the starting lineup in the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham. The 20-year-old forward had played in every knockout match leading to the final but was surprisingly benched by manager Ruben Amorim for the crucial clash in Bilbao, only coming on for the last 19 minutes.

United’s season has been one of their worst in Premier League history, and their 1-0 loss to Spurs confirmed they will miss out on European football next season. With the club currently sitting 16th in the table and one game remaining, frustration among players and fans has been growing.

Speaking after the final, Garnacho expressed disappointment over being sidelined. “Until we reached the final, I played every round. And I played 20 minutes today… I don’t know,” he said. Reflecting on the season, he added, “We didn’t beat anyone in the league. We lacked a lot of things. When you don’t score goals, you always need more.”

There were already signs of tension earlier in the season when Garnacho was left out of the squad for a match against Manchester City in December. This led to rumors linking him with a January move to Napoli or Chelsea, though nothing materialized at the time.

Now, Garnacho admits the final and the club’s situation will play a role in his decision. “The final will influence (my decision), but the whole season, the situation of the club (will too),” he said. “I’m going to try to enjoy the summer and see what happens afterwards.”

Adding to the drama, Garnacho’s brother Roberto posted online that the young star had been “thrown under the bus,” indicating the family’s frustration with the treatment he received.

Coach Ruben Amorim defended his decision, citing Mason Mount’s performance in the semi-final as justification. Mount, who scored twice in the second leg against Athletic Bilbao, started in the final ahead of Garnacho. “Some players come in, like Mason Mount, against Bilbao and change the game,” Amorim said. “Who missed the big opportunity in the first half against Bilbao? Yeah (Garnacho). Of course, now it is easy for us to talk about a lot of views.”
