Faithia Williams Promotes Efunroye: The Unicorn Despite Mother’s Passing
Nollywood actress Faithia Williams has resumed promotion for her upcoming film, Efunroye: The Unicorn, just weeks after the passing of her mother. The movie is set to premiere in cinemas nationwide on May 1, 2026.
The film tells the story of a powerful historical figure, with Williams playing the lead role. Earlier in February, she announced the death of her mother, who passed away on February 7, just two days after her 55th birthday.
In a heartfelt social media post, Williams shared the weight of her grief, explaining that she has yet to lay her mother to rest. She spoke about the challenge of handling condolences and private moments of reflection while preparing for the film’s release.
Despite her pain, Williams chose to continue promoting Efunroye: The Unicorn, seeing it as both a personal milestone and a legacy project. “I could have stayed away. I could have mourned in silence. But I chose to rise, for my mother, for my legacy, for this story,” she said.
Williams described the film as her first cinematic debut, a long-held dream she worked hard to bring to life. She called it a story of power and legacy, centred on a merchant, legend, and kingmaker.
The actress emphasised that promoting the film is not a distraction from her grief but a demonstration of resilience. “I am grieving. I am hurting. But I am also standing,” she wrote, adding that life and purpose continue even in sorrow.
Efunroye: The Unicorn is scheduled to hit cinemas across Nigeria on May 1, 2026, marking an important moment in Williams’ career and her dedication to storytelling despite personal loss.
