Burna Boy Makes History as Most Certified Nigerian Artist in France
Burna Boy has reached a new milestone in his global career as he becomes the most certified Nigerian artist in France, with his song “City Boys” officially going platinum in the country.
This certification comes from SNEP, France’s official music certification authority, making “City Boys” the ninth song by Burna Boy to be certified in France. The track, part of his seventh studio album “I Told Them”, continues to build his international legacy and strengthen his dominance in Europe.
A tweet by @thedebuthub confirmed the news, stating:
“JUST IN Burna Boy’s “City Boys” is now certified PLATINUM in France
. — It’s his 9th song to achieve this milestone, the most for any Nigerian act.”
This new accolade adds to Burna Boy’s already impressive list of certified songs in France. Notably, “Last Last” and “On The Low” have achieved diamond status, while “Gbona”, “Ye”, and now “City Boys” have gone platinum. His other tracks such as “Alone”, “For My Hand” (featuring Ed Sheeran), and “Anybody” have received gold certifications.
Beyond certifications, Burna Boy’s popularity in France has grown through live performances and cultural recognition. In 2024, he became the first African artist to sell out the 80,000-capacity Stade de France, a landmark moment for Afrobeats. He also made history by being the first African to feature on the cover of Billboard France Magazine.
Another significant moment in his French journey includes his 2019 collaboration with French singer Dadju, titled “Donne-Moi L’accord”, which recently went platinum after crossing 50 million streams on Spotify.
With this continued success, Burna Boy not only showcases the global power of Afrobeats but also solidifies his place as a leading figure in African music’s international evolution.
As fans celebrate this historic milestone, one thing is clear—Burna Boy is not just making music, he’s making history.
