Bolaji Ogunmola Slams United Nigeria Airline Over Repeated Flight Cancellations, Threatens Legal Action
Nollywood actress Bolaji Ogunmola has publicly condemned United Nigeria Airline after being stranded in Ekiti State due to repeated flight cancellations over two days, calling the experience unfair and threatening legal action against the airline. The incident, she said, caused significant disruption to her work schedule and personal commitments.
The actress had traveled to Ekiti State for a professional engagement and was scheduled to return to Lagos for another filming on Wednesday. However, her flight was initially delayed without explanation, and hours later, she was informed that it had been canceled entirely. Ogunmola expressed frustration over the lack of communication, saying she was left without guidance or alternatives, despite having work commitments waiting in Lagos.
In a tearful video posted on her Instagram on Thursday morning, she detailed her ordeal: “I was supposed to fly yesterday. I got to the airport, and they said something happened, and the flight was delayed. I waited for hours, then they said they were not flying again and had canceled the flight. I asked, ‘Okay, you’ve canceled the flight; what’s the plan? I need to get to Lagos.’ They said nothing could be done. I even tried Akure, but nothing happened.”
She added that the following day brought further confusion. The airline initially promised a flight at 8:00 a.m., which was later delayed to 9:30 a.m., then to 12:00 p.m., and eventually to 5:30 p.m. She described the impact of these repeated delays, saying she had to pay for hotel accommodations and bills while waiting for the rescheduled flights. “This is very painful because they could have at least sent a message. I’m working today, and there was no conversation, no notification,” she said.
Ogunmola emphasized that the airline’s actions affected more than just her time, stating, “It’s not only my time they are toying with; it’s actually the source of my livelihood as well. I’m literally stuck in a State I don’t know anybody, waiting for a car to pick me so I can get to Lagos, and I don’t know what time I’ll get there. My lawyer will take this up.” She described the airline staff as lacking remorse and decency, noting that the experience was both stressful and unsafe, particularly given the unreliable communication.
This incident comes barely a month after United Nigeria Airline commenced commercial flight operations in Ekiti State, raising concerns about the reliability and efficiency of the airline’s domestic services. Ogunmola’s public complaint has highlighted challenges faced by passengers, especially professionals with tight schedules, and has sparked discussions on passenger rights, accountability, and the need for better communication from domestic airlines.
The actress’ decision to take legal action shows the seriousness of her grievance, signaling potential scrutiny for United Nigeria Airline and the importance of providing reliable, transparent services to travelers across Nigeria. Fans and fellow entertainers have since expressed support, urging the airline to address the situation promptly and ensure that similar incidents do not recur.
