Atiku Fires Back at Bwala Says He Doesn’t Need Validation from Political Opportunists
Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has strongly responded to recent comments by Daniel Bwala, calling him a political opportunist. Atiku said he neither needs nor seeks validation from people who easily abandon principles just to align with the ruling powers.
This statement came through his media adviser, Paul Ibe, following Bwala’s remarks during a TVC interview where the now-presidential aide said Atiku should accept God’s will and stop contesting against “destiny.” Bwala also dismissed the idea of a coalition being formed by opposition leaders, saying it was “dead on arrival.”
Atiku reacted by describing Bwala’s new position as ironic, pointing out that the same person once served as his spokesman. “It is unfortunate that someone who once relied on Atiku’s platform for relevance now believes he can lecture a statesman on retirement, legacy, and destiny,” said the statement.
He further criticized Bwala’s attempt to gain favor with the current government, calling it a “desperate effort” to stay relevant. Atiku accused Bwala of abandoning his principles, changing political sides, and trying to rewrite history just to serve the interests of a government that is already struggling.
Atiku’s camp questioned why the APC remains focused on him if he is, as they say, no longer relevant. “If Atiku is no longer a threat, why the constant attacks? Why assign aides to insult him on national platforms?” the statement asked. According to Atiku, these actions show that the coalition he’s building with other leaders is already troubling the ruling party.
He also reminded Nigerians of his long-standing role in the country’s democratic journey. “Atiku Abubakar has consistently stood for reform, restructuring, and electoral integrity since 1999. His legacy is built on courage and consistency, not empty positions or shallow loyalty,” the statement said.
The former Vice President made it clear that he won’t be distracted by what he called “political jesters pretending to be patriots.” He emphasized that the mission to rescue and rebuild Nigeria is urgent and far too important to be sidetracked by personal attacks or ego battles.
Atiku’s response is the latest in the ongoing war of words between opposition figures and presidential aides as political alignments continue to shift ahead of the 2027 general elections.
