Aproko Doctor Raises Alarm Over Toxic Dye in Palm Oil, Warns of Serious Health Risks

Popular Nigerian doctor and social media influencer Aproko Doctor has raised serious concerns about the circulation of palm oil adulterated with artificial dyes in Nigeria. His warning comes amid growing health concerns linked to food adulteration in the country.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, Aproko Doctor explained that some unscrupulous traders are adding artificial dye to palm oil to mimic the natural deep red color of genuine palm oil. The practice is deceptive, as unsuspecting consumers end up buying fake products that may contain harmful substances.

Expressing shock at the widespread use of dyes, Aproko Doctor said, “Omo, people are wicked. What do you mean you are putting dye in palm oil so it will look red and you are selling it to people knowing that what they are actually drinking or putting in their food is not actual palm oil but something mixed with dye.”

He emphasized that certain artificial dyes used in these adulterated palm oils are carcinogenic, meaning they can cause cancer in some individuals. Aproko Doctor further linked the widespread consumption of such toxic products to Nigeria’s low life expectancy, which averages around 50 years. He explained that many preventable health issues, including cancers and chronic illnesses, can be traced back to the consumption of adulterated food products.

The doctor also provided practical advice for Nigerians on how to identify fake palm oil. He encouraged consumers to look for natural oil consistency and aroma, warning that overly bright red or unnaturally colored palm oil is often a sign that it contains harmful dye. Purchasing palm oil from trusted vendors or verified brands is another way to reduce health risks.

Aproko Doctor’s warning has sparked widespread discussion online, highlighting the importance of food safety awareness in Nigeria. Many netizens applauded him for educating the public and raising awareness about a hidden threat in everyday cooking.

Food experts have long warned that adulteration of common ingredients such as palm oil, rice, and spices poses a serious health risk in Nigeria. Beyond cancer, toxic dyes can affect liver and kidney function, trigger allergic reactions, and cause long-term health problems if consumed regularly.

By bringing attention to the issue, Aproko Doctor hopes to reduce the circulation of unsafe products, encourage stricter government regulation, and educate Nigerians on making safer food choices.

Consumers are advised to:

  • Check the color of palm oil; natural red palm oil is usually a deep orange-red, not bright red.
  • Smell the oil; natural palm oil has a unique earthy aroma.
  • Buy from trusted stores or verified brands.
  • Avoid oils that appear too bright or artificially colored.
  • Educate family and friends about the dangers of adulterated palm oil.

Aproko Doctor’s video has highlighted the urgent need for public awareness and action against the sale of adulterated food products, reminding Nigerians that vigilance is key to protecting their health.
