APC E-Registration Will Transform Nigerian Politics – Lagos Chapter

The Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) says its ongoing electronic membership registration is a bold reform aimed at improving internal democracy, promoting transparency, and securing the party’s long-term electoral strength.

The exercise, which started on Monday, will run until the end of January. The Lagos APC described it as a modern, strategic step to meet the demands of today’s democratic politics. It provides enough time for both existing and new members to be properly recorded in a complete digital database.

In a statement on Tuesday, Lagos APC publicity secretary Seye Oladejo said the e-registration is not optional or superficial, but a clear demonstration of the party’s determination to remain disciplined, progressive, and relevant. “Political parties that avoid reform inevitably decay,” the statement said. It added that the APC is choosing “order over chaos, structure over arbitrariness, and transparency over convenience.”

Oladejo explained that the digital exercise will protect the integrity of the membership register by preventing duplication, impersonation, and other irregularities that harm cohesion and credibility. Every member will be identifiable, verifiable, and properly accounted for, following best democratic practices.

The spokesperson added that the initiative levels the playing field for all members, removes gatekeeping structures, and reinforces that no individual or group owns the APC beyond its constitution and collective will. He described the process as a sign that the party welcomes the growing number of Nigerians joining its progressive platform.

Beyond administrative benefits, the APC said e-registration is key to credible congresses, transparent primaries, and legitimate leadership elections. A reliable digital register, it said, forms the foundation of internal democracy and discourages resistance to reforms that promote openness and accountability.

Oladejo emphasized that the exercise will help mobilize youths, professionals, and first-time political participants who value efficiency and clarity. By using technology, the APC positions itself as a forward-looking party ready for the future of political engagement.

He added that a data-driven membership system will strengthen grassroots coordination, campaign planning, and constant communication with members. “A party that truly knows its members cannot be ambushed at the polls,” he said.

The Lagos APC expressed confidence that the e-registration will further strengthen the party’s dominance in Nigeria, contrasting its verified membership structure with what it described as the “assumptions” of opposition parties.

All members and stakeholders were urged to participate fully and promptly, as the APC sees participation as essential to its progressive ideals. “The e-registration exercise is a clear declaration that our party will not be held hostage by inertia, fear, or retrogressive interests,” the statement concluded.
