Kanye West Postpones Marseille Concert Amid Ban Threat Over Controversial Remarks

US rapper Kanye West has postponed his planned concert in the French city of Marseille following reports that authorities were considering blocking the event over his controversial past statements.

The rapper, who also goes by Ye, announced the postponement on X (formerly Twitter), saying the June 11 performance would be delayed “until further notice” after careful consideration of the situation.

The decision comes amid reports that France’s Interior Minister, Laurent Nunez, was exploring options to stop the concert from going ahead due to West’s history of antisemitic remarks and his controversial public comments about Adolf Hitler.

Kanye West has faced repeated backlash in recent years over such statements, which have drawn criticism from governments, human rights groups, and parts of the global entertainment industry.

In the United Kingdom, authorities previously barred him from entering the country, leading to the cancellation of a festival appearance where he was expected to headline. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer also described the decision to book him as “deeply concerning.”

Despite the controversy, some officials in other European countries have taken a more cautious approach. Dutch authorities, for example, recently indicated there were no immediate plans to block him from performing in the Netherlands.

Reacting to the ongoing backlash, Kanye West said he takes responsibility for his actions but does not want fans to be affected by the situation. He added that he remains open to making amends.

The rapper has continued to face criticism, including after releasing a controversial track titled “Heil Hitler” in 2025, which was removed from major streaming platforms. He later linked some of his behaviour to struggles with bipolar disorder.

The postponement of the Marseille show adds to a growing list of disrupted performances tied to his controversial public image in recent years.
