Diddy Set for Early Prison Release as Appeal Continues

Rapper Sean Combs, popularly known as Diddy, is expected to be released from prison earlier than previously scheduled as he continues to appeal his sentence.

Combs is currently serving a 50-month sentence at Fort Dix Federal Correctional Institution in New Jersey on prostitution-related charges. According to records from the Federal Bureau of Prisons, his new release date has been moved from June 4, 2028, to April 25, 2028 — about six weeks earlier than earlier projections.

The adjustment reportedly followed his participation in the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP), a rehabilitation programme for inmates. His representative said Combs has taken the programme seriously and remains focused on personal growth and positive change.

His prison timeline has changed several times. His release was first set for May 8, 2028, before it was later moved to June 4, 2028, after he allegedly violated prison rules. Reports claimed he consumed homemade alcohol and took part in an unauthorised phone call. His legal team, however, disputed parts of the claims, saying the phone call fell under attorney-client privilege.

Photos released by TMZ recently showed the founder of Bad Boy Records inside the facility. He was seen wearing a grey outfit and walking through a prison corridor.

Before his sentencing, Combs wrote a four-page apology letter expressing regret for his actions. He admitted he had “lost his way” and described his time in prison as life-changing. He said prison had humbled him and pushed him to become a better person.

Combs has been in custody since his arrest in September 2024. He was convicted on two counts of transporting individuals to engage in prostitution but was acquitted of racketeering and sex trafficking charges, which could have led to a much longer sentence.

In December, he filed an appeal seeking immediate release or a reduced sentence, arguing that prosecutors failed to prove key elements of the case and that the punishment violated his constitutional rights. Prosecutors opposed the appeal in February.

There have also been discussions about a possible presidential pardon. Former U.S. President Donald Trump acknowledged that Combs had asked for a pardon, saying several people had made similar requests.
