Olumide Oworu Explains Why He Left Entertainment for Politics

Nigerian actor Olumide Oworu has revealed why he decided to leave the entertainment industry and enter politics. Speaking on Naija FM, Oworu said the state of governance in Nigeria motivated him to take action.

Oworu, who ran for the Lagos State House of Assembly seat in 2023 under the Labour Party but lost to Desmond Elliott, explained that his decision was driven by concerns about the country’s future and the long-term impact of policy decisions on young Nigerians.

“I decided to join politics because of how the country is going. I know how Nigeria was when I was younger, but now, things keep getting worse. I want to start a family and raise my kids here,” he said.

He added that being involved in policymaking is crucial because current decisions affect everyone, including his generation. “Most of the present crop of politicians are aging out, and whatever policy they make today, my friends and I will be at the receiving end tomorrow,” Oworu explained.

The actor emphasized that young Nigerians must move beyond commentary and actively participate in governance. He believes the public policy decisions made today will shape the social and economic realities of his generation in the years ahead.

Oworu’s move highlights a growing trend of young Nigerian entertainers using their influence to engage in politics and push for meaningful change in the country.
