Lagos Court Orders DNA Test for Mohbad’s Son

A Magistrate Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State, has ordered that DNA tests be carried out on Liam Aloba, the two-year-old son of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad. The ruling was delivered on Tuesday by Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga following an application brought before the court by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba.

The legal move is the latest development in the ongoing family dispute that has continued to draw public attention since the singer’s passing in September 2023. Joseph Aloba has been demanding clarity on the paternity of his grandson, and the court’s decision is now set to provide an official answer. Mohbad’s widow, Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, was listed as the respondent in the case and was represented by her legal team during the court proceedings.

During the hearing, Joseph Aloba’s counsel, Augustine Adegbemi, presented the application to the court, requesting that a DNA test be carried out on Liam. Interestingly, the motion faced no opposition from Omowunmi’s lawyer, Kabir Akingbolu, clearing the way for the court to give its ruling without delay. Magistrate Sonuga subsequently ordered that two separate DNA tests should be conducted.

According to the court order, the first test will be conducted in Nigeria, while the second one will be carried out outside the country to ensure transparency and credibility. Both tests must take place in accredited and recognized hospitals, and both parties, or their representatives, are expected to be present during the collection of samples. This directive is seen as a move to eliminate any doubt or bias in the outcome.

The decision marks a critical turning point in the case, as the results of the DNA tests will not only determine Liam’s paternity but could also influence ongoing disputes around Mohbad’s estate and inheritance rights. For many observers, the ruling is a step toward resolving a sensitive family matter that has played out publicly and sparked heated debates online.

The case has been adjourned until November 11, when the court will review updates on the DNA process. Until then, the outcome of the tests remains highly anticipated, with fans of Mohbad, family members, and the general public closely watching to see how the issue unfolds. The situation has once again highlighted the deep emotions and controversies surrounding the late singer’s legacy.
