Reekado Banks Admits He Left Mavin Records Too Soon

Nigerian singer Reekado Banks has spoken openly about his decision to leave Mavin Records, admitting that he may have made the move earlier than he should have. Speaking in a recent conversation with reality TV star Teddy A on the Echoo Room, he said that although the exit was not due to any conflict, it turned out to be a decision made too quickly.

Reekado Banks signed with Mavin Records in 2014 and immediately became one of Nigeria’s most promising young artists. The same year, he won the Rookie of the Year award at The Headies. One year later, he received the Next Rated award, cementing his position as a fast-rising star in the music industry.

In 2018, he announced that he was leaving the label and starting his music outfit, Banks Music. He explained that his contract with Mavin Records had actually ended two years before his exit, and instead of renewing it, he decided to continue his journey independently. Reekado said that although he believed he was ready at the time, he soon realised that the decision was premature.

He further noted that there was no disagreement or misunderstanding involved, but he was young and eager to move on. After leaving, he faced the reality of managing his music career and the business side of things on his own without the support he previously had.

Reekado Banks said that the experience has made him stronger and taught him a lot about the challenges of operating independently in Nigeria’s music industry. He believes that the lessons he has learnt since leaving the label have helped him grow personally and professionally.

Since launching Banks Music, the singer has continued to release songs and build his path in the industry. He noted that although it was difficult in the beginning, the journey has been valuable in shaping his understanding of the music business.

Why does Reekado Banks believe he left Mavin too early? He feels that he still has more to learn and should have spent more time under Don Jazzy’s guidance before taking the bold step of going solo.
