Wizkid Sets New Record as First African Artist to Hit 20 Billion Global Audio Streams

Nigerian superstar and Grammy Award winner Wizkid has achieved a groundbreaking feat by becoming the first African artist to surpass 20 billion audio streams globally across on-demand platforms.

The milestone was confirmed this week by ChartMasters, a global music data tracking organization, which compiled streaming data from both his solo projects and featured appearances. This remarkable achievement places Wizkid among the world’s most-streamed artists and underscores the growing global influence of Afrobeats.

His most-streamed track remains the 2016 smash hit “One Dance”, a collaboration with Drake and Kyla, which has now racked up over 3.6 billion streams on Spotify alone. This iconic song also earned a Guinness World Record as the first song in Spotify’s history to surpass 1 billion streams.

“Wizkid has once again raised the bar for African artists in the global music industry,” stated ChartMasters.

In 2023, Wizkid made history as the first African artist to receive the Brit Billion Award, a recognition for achieving over 1 billion streams in the UK alone. Now, with over 65 million units sold worldwide, he holds the record as the best-selling Afrobeats artist of all time.
