Wizkid and Seun Kuti Feud Escalates Over Fela Kuti’s Legacy

The ongoing tension between Afrobeats superstar Wizkid and Seun Kuti, the son of legendary musician Fela Kuti, has escalated into a major public feud that is drawing widespread attention across Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

The disagreement began after Seun Kuti accused members of Wizkid’s fan base, popularly known as Wizkid FC, of disrespecting his late father’s legacy. According to Seun, some fans were allegedly making comparisons between Wizkid and Fela Kuti, which he described as deeply offensive given Fela’s historic role in African music, politics, and activism. He argued that Fela’s influence goes far beyond music and should not be reduced to modern popularity debates.

Although Wizkid’s supporters denied making such comparisons, the situation quickly intensified on social media. Wizkid appeared to respond by reposting a viral video on his Instagram story in which a woman strongly criticised Seun Kuti. Shortly after, the singer shared a post of his own that pushed the issue beyond fan arguments and into a direct personal confrontation.

In the post, Wizkid wrote, “I big pass your papa. Wetin you wan do? Fool at 40,” a comment that many interpreted as dismissive and disrespectful to both Seun Kuti and the legacy of Fela Kuti. The statement sparked outrage among fans, cultural commentators, and music lovers, with critics accusing the singer of crossing a line by appearing to belittle a globally respected icon.

Supporters of Wizkid, however, defended him by saying the statement reflected his confidence in his current global success and influence rather than a denial of Fela Kuti’s historical importance. They argued that modern achievements and past legacies can exist side by side without diminishing either.

Seun Kuti has maintained that his reaction is not about personal ego but about protecting his father’s cultural and ideological legacy. He insists that Fela Kuti represents resistance, African pride, and political consciousness, values that should not be dragged into online fan rivalries or popularity contests.

The feud has highlighted the growing clash between modern celebrity culture and the guardians of historic cultural icons. It also shows how powerful fan communities and social media platforms can quickly escalate disagreements into full-scale public confrontations.

With neither Wizkid nor Seun Kuti backing down, the controversy continues to dominate online discussions and entertainment news platforms, keeping fans divided and the dispute unresolved for now.
