Wike Says He Broke No Law By Traveling With His Sons to Dubai
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has responded to the public criticism he received after traveling with his two sons, Jordan and Joaquin, to Dubai for the 2025 Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayor’s Forum. Many Nigerians had accused him of using public funds to sponsor their trip.
Wike made it clear that he did nothing wrong. He said no law in Nigeria stops him from traveling with his children, especially when they are adults. He also challenged anyone who believes the trip was paid for by the government to bring proof.
He explained that his sons are not being trained for any political role. According to him, one of his sons studied law but later went into farming. The other holds a master’s degree in economics and works in real estate. Wike said they are building their own futures and he is proud of them.
Wike stated that people should not assume that every family of a politician wants to be involved in government. He said his children follow their own career choices and have been disciplined in shaping their paths.
He stressed that the criticism was unnecessary because he followed due process in his official trip. He noted that both sons are adults who wanted to learn more about international engagements and how governance works at a global level.
What is the main issue people are complaining about?
The main issue is that some Nigerians believe Wike used government money to sponsor his sons’ travel. However, Wike denied this and challenged anyone to prove otherwise.
Wike added that his children have not caused him trouble but instead have brought him comfort. He said he is proud of their achievements and how they carry themselves.
The situation has continued to draw reactions from the public. Some people feel leaders should be more careful with their public image, while others support Wike, saying family presence on official trips is not unusual if no public funds are misused.
