Werder Bremen Sack Coach Ole Werner After Contract Dispute

Werder Bremen have parted ways with head coach Ole Werner following his decision not to extend his contract with the club beyond 2026. The Bundesliga side announced his immediate release on Tuesday, just a day after reports surfaced that Werner had declined an offer to extend his stay.

The club expressed disappointment over his decision, stating, “We deeply regret Ole’s decision because we envisioned a long-term collaboration with him. As we need clarity and continuity in the head coaching position, we have decided to release Ole.”

Werner, who joined Werder Bremen in 2021 when the club was in the second division, successfully led the team back to the Bundesliga in his first season. Since then, he has been credited with stabilising the team and improving their performance each year.

This season, Bremen came close to securing European competition, finishing just one point away from qualifying spots. The club last participated in European football during the 2010-11 season.

At only 37 years old, Werner had been seen as a promising young coach. His departure now leaves Werder Bremen searching for a new leader at a crucial time.

Meanwhile, several Bundesliga teams including RB Leipzig, Wolfsburg, Cologne, and Augsburg, are also on the lookout for new head coaches, setting the stage for a busy off-season in German football.
