Victony Says Life-Changing Accident Made His Parents Support His Music Career

Nigerian singer Anthony Ebuka Victor, widely known as Victony, has opened up about how a near-fatal car accident in 2021 completely changed his parents’ stance on his music career.

Speaking during an episode of the Behind The Prestige podcast, Victony shared how his parents, who initially wanted him to pursue a career in engineering, became more supportive of his dreams after the accident.

In April 2021, Victony was involved in a serious car crash that claimed the life of one person and left others injured. The event was a turning point in his life—not only for his health but also for his career and family relationships.

Before the accident, Victony said his parents were not fully on board with his decision to become a musician. “My parents were not cool with me doing music from the jump. They didn’t tell me to stop, but they weren’t 100% supportive,” he said. “They hoped I’d finish school and become an engineer.”

However, the overwhelming support he received from fans and the music community after the crash changed their minds. “When they saw how much impact I had on people, how people on social media were posting things like ‘pray for Victony’, they realised my music career meant a lot to me and just let me do what I wanted,” he explained.

Victony also disclosed that he has undergone four surgeries since the accident and continues to deal with its physical effects. Despite these challenges, he remains one of Nigeria’s most promising music stars.

He gained widespread attention with the 2021 hit Holy Father featuring Mayorkun and has since released other successful tracks like Soweto and Ohema, further proving his talent and resilience in the industry.
