Unilorin Alumni Association Calls for Probe of Ex-President Over Impersonation Claims
The University of Ilorin Alumni Association (EXCO) has issued a public warning against dealing with its former president, Dr. Wale Fashakin, who is accused of continuing to claim the position of national president three years after his removal. The association has called for an investigation into his actions, alleging that his impersonation could disrupt the peace of the University of Ilorin.
In a statement released on Sunday by the group’s publicity secretary, Olorunsuwa Elijah Ola, the EXCO detailed how Fashakin’s tenure as president ended abruptly in 2021. His removal followed a resolution by the association’s Congress due to his alleged abuse of office, authoritarian leadership style, and betrayal of the group’s trust and constitution. Despite his ousting, the statement claims that Fashakin has repeatedly presented himself as the president at various events.
The alumni association emphasized that Fashakin’s actions undermine the integrity of the association and tarnish the reputation of the University of Ilorin. It also pointed out his recent interactions with prominent figures, including a visit to the Controller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Mrs. Kemi Nanna Nandap, and his alleged inauguration of a new Board of Trustees for the association.
The group has called on both the Police and the Department of State Security Service to question Fashakin regarding his actions. The statement expressed concern that his behavior could lead to a breach of peace at the university. It urged the public to avoid engaging with him on behalf of the association.
In addition, the association stressed the importance of maintaining the integrity of the leadership and warned that Fashakin’s continued impersonation would not be tolerated. The group has also urged stakeholders to be cautious when dealing with him, as his actions are seen as both disgraceful and damaging to the association’s credibility.
