Ubi Franklin Faces Backlash for Saying No Coalition Can Defeat Tinubu in 2027

Nigerian music executive Ubi Franklin has sparked a wave of online criticism after declaring that President Bola Tinubu cannot be unseated in the 2027 general elections. Franklin made the statement on his 𝕏 account, expressing confidence in Tinubu’s leadership and governance, which he believes is on the right path.

He argued that the president is doing a lot of things right, but the opposition parties in Nigeria typically ignore the achievements of any ruling government. Franklin suggested that the formation of political coalitions ahead of 2027 will make the election interesting, but not enough to remove Tinubu from office.

“In Nigeria, if the opposition wants to campaign against you, they will never see anything good in what you have done being in government. There are many things President Tinubu is getting right,” he posted.

Franklin also urged Nigerians to hold governors more accountable, arguing that they are receiving higher allocations than previous administrations but still underperforming.

His comments, however, did not sit well with many Nigerians online. Critics flooded his comment section, calling him out for being out of touch with the current economic and social hardships facing the country.

One user, @peculiarpat1, challenged Franklin to reflect on major national indicators like GDP, HDI, and poverty rates. They questioned how life has improved under Tinubu’s administration, highlighting widespread suffering in areas such as security, education, and healthcare.

@kindwest mocked Franklin, saying many more like him will emerge pretending to support the government to stay relevant. Another user, @AmosOsime, accused him of trying to gain political recognition through his connection with Tinubu and Shettima via singer Davido.

Critics also questioned Franklin’s motives, suggesting his comments were more about personal gain than patriotism. @PatrioticNGRN warned him that his attempts to remain politically relevant might lead nowhere, while @Xhogre accused him of being insensitive to the struggles of everyday Nigerians.

Many believe Franklin’s remarks reflect the growing trend of celebrities and influencers aligning with political figures, even in the face of harsh realities on the ground. While some may see his comments as a personal opinion, others view them as a betrayal of the public’s pain.
