Tiwa Savage Says She Doesn’t Get Enough Recognition for Her Impact in Afrobeats
Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Tiwa Savage has said she doesn’t receive enough credit for her huge contributions to the music industry.
In a recent episode of the OffAir Show hosted by Gbemi and Toolz, Tiwa, often celebrated as the Queen of Afrobeats, expressed that she deserves more recognition for everything she has done to elevate African music globally.
When Toolz asked if she feels she has received her flowers from the industry, Tiwa replied honestly, “No. I’m sorry, I don’t.” Her response sparked reactions from fans who agree that her influence, especially in paving the way for female artists in Afrobeats, has not been celebrated enough.
The award-winning singer, known for hits like Malo, All Over, and Eminado, said that despite her success, she often feels overlooked in conversations about Afrobeats legends. Tiwa Savage has played a major role in breaking barriers for women in a male-dominated industry and bringing Afrobeats to international audiences.
Meanwhile, Tiwa also shared a surprising story about one of Nigeria’s biggest hit songs, Dorobucci. Speaking in an interview with NotJustOk, she admitted that when Mavin Records boss Don Jazzy first played the unfinished version of the song, she thought it was “crap.” She said, “He played it for me in the hotel when we were in Dubai for my wedding, and I didn’t want to tell him, but I thought it was such a crap song.”
However, when she later heard the final version, she was shocked at how good it sounded and how much it had transformed. Tiwa revealed that she had a similar experience with her own hit Eminado, which she initially doubted would become a success.
Despite her modesty, Tiwa Savage remains one of the most influential female artists in Africa, known for her timeless music, confidence, and ability to reinvent herself. Her statement has once again reminded fans of how much she has shaped the Afrobeats sound and culture.
