Tiwa Savage Reveals Her Tattoo Was Inspired by Heartbreak
Nigerian music superstar Tiwa Savage has shared a deeply personal story about how heartbreak pushed her to get a tattoo. The award-winning singer revealed that the pain of a failed relationship was so overwhelming that she decided to mark it permanently on her body. For her, the tattoo was not just body art but a release, a way to express emotions she could not put into words.
Speaking in a recent interview with media personality Katy Igwe, Tiwa explained that she chose to have the procedure done in her Lagos home rather than in a public tattoo parlour. She confessed that she wanted privacy because, at that time, she was dealing with heavy emotions and did not want strangers watching her vulnerability while she went through the pain of the process.
To make it possible, Tiwa flew in her trusted tattoo artist all the way from Los Angeles to Nigeria. She described how important it was for her to be in a safe and comfortable environment, surrounded only by familiar energy. “When you are in a tattoo parlour, there are so many people working around you. I didn’t want that. I wanted a place where I could deal with my emotions in peace,” she said.
The session itself, however, turned out to be more intense than expected. Tiwa recalled that her tattoo artist was shocked at what she wanted to do and was worried when the process became bloody. According to her, the artist kept questioning if she was okay and asking what she was trying to achieve, but she insisted on going through with it.
She admitted that the tattoo was born out of raw pain. “I did that from the pain I felt from a heartbreak. I just wanted to do something to scream,” Tiwa revealed, adding that the ink became her way of channeling hurt into something permanent. For her, it was not just a design on her skin but a symbol of survival and strength during one of the hardest periods of her life.
Reflecting on that time, Tiwa admitted that the heartbreak was one of the toughest experiences she had ever gone through. She described the relationship as “crazy” and confessed that the last two years had been incredibly difficult for her emotionally. Looking back now, she said she is grateful to have walked away from it, emphasizing that leaving the toxic relationship gave her a chance to heal and rebuild herself.
Her story has sparked emotional reactions from fans, with many praising her honesty and courage to open up about such a vulnerable chapter of her life. For Tiwa, the tattoo stands as a reminder of resilience—proof that even in moments of pain, self-expression can become a powerful form of healing.
