Tinubu Appoints Abdullahi Ramat as NERC Chairman and Names Two New Commissioners
President Bola Tinubu has appointed Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). This marks a major step in strengthening leadership in Nigeria’s power sector.
Ramat, who is just 39 years old, is an electrical engineer with years of administrative experience. He also holds a PhD in Strategic Management and other academic qualifications, making him a strong candidate for the job.
In addition to Ramat’s nomination, President Tinubu has also named Mr. Abubakar Yusuf as Commissioner for Consumer Affairs and Dr. Fouad Olayinka Animashun as Commissioner for Finance and Management Services at NERC. These two appointments are expected to bring fresh ideas and solid management into the commission.
The announcement was made in a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy. According to the statement, all three nominations are subject to confirmation by the Nigerian Senate, in line with the law.
However, to ensure there is no gap in leadership at the commission, President Tinubu has directed that Ramat should begin work immediately in an acting capacity. This means he will start serving as the head of NERC while waiting for Senate approval.
The president urged the newly appointed leaders to use their knowledge and experience to help Nigeria’s electricity sector grow. He also asked them to work hard to support his administration’s goals for improving power supply in the country.
The new leadership is expected to play a key role in regulating the electricity industry, protecting consumers, and driving development in Nigeria’s power sector.
