Sowore Condemns Judge After Lawyer Allegedly Ordered to Kneel in Court
Nigerian activist Omoyele Sowore has expressed outrage after a reported incident in which a judge allegedly ordered his lawyer to kneel during a courtroom proceeding.
Taking to social media, Sowore criticized the state of justice in Nigeria, questioning how fairness can exist when a judge reportedly asked his lawyer to kneel for insisting on cross-examining a witness. He wrote: “How do you expect justice in a country where a judge orders a solid lawyer to kneel down for insisting on cross-examining a fake witness presented by the lawless @OfficialDSSng?”
He commended his lawyer, Barrister Marshal D. F. Abubakar, for standing firm. “I am glad Barrister Abubakar stood his ground. He did not flinch,” Sowore added.
Sowore further alleged that the judge, identified as Justice Mohammed G. Umar, adjourned the case and left the courtroom following the incident. “It was the judge, Justice Mohammed G Umar who had to adjourn and leave the courtroom. End of case!” he said.
The activist also criticized the Nigerian Bar Association, accusing it of failing to act against such incidents. He stated, “And you will never hear the Nigerian Bar Association do anything about this. They are only concerned about the tinted glass permit!”
Concluding his statement, Sowore expressed his frustration with Nigeria’s justice system, declaring: “Nigeria is finished!”
The incident has sparked widespread debate online about the conduct of judges, the independence of lawyers in court, and the accountability of Nigeria’s judicial institutions.
