Nigerian Juju music legend Sir Shina Peters has sparked online debate after boldly claiming that he has produced more timeless songs than the late American pop legend Michael Jackson.
The veteran artist made the statement during an appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, where he reflected on his long career and the importance of creating music that remains relevant across generations.
According to Sir Shina Peters, true success in the entertainment industry is not about temporary fame or commercial success but about producing evergreen songs that continue to connect with people over time.
He said, “The only thing you can show for showbiz at the end is how many evergreens you have produced. To my credit, I have four evergreens. Even Michael Jackson has just two: Off The Wall and Thriller. So, if I have four, I am accomplished.”
The Juju star, whose music career has spanned more than four decades, is celebrated for pioneering the Afro-Juju sound, blending traditional African rhythms with energetic beats and contemporary style. His classics, including Ace (Afro-Juju Series 1) and Shinamania, have played a key role in shaping Nigeria’s music heritage.
