Simi Reveals How She Avoided Heartbreak Before Marrying Adekunle Gold
Nigerian music star Simi has revealed how she managed to avoid heartbreak in her past relationships before settling down with fellow singer Adekunle Gold. In a candid chat with media personality VJ Adams, the Duduke singer shared her emotional strategy and how it helped her steer clear of deep heartbreak.
Simi explained that although she has experienced emotional pain, she doesn’t recall ever going through a true heartbreak. “I don’t think I’ve ever been heartbroken, but I’ve been hurt before,” she said. “I probably broke someone’s heart though.”
According to the singer, she always chooses to walk away from situations that don’t feel right to her, instead of staying and risking being pitied or hurt. “I’m the type of person who used to say I never wanted someone to date me out of pity. I’d rather feel bad for a while and get over it. That’s how I’ve always operated,” she said.
She added that her decision-making is influenced by how her mind works. “If I feel like something isn’t good for me, the way my brain is wired is to walk away from it,” Simi said, noting that this mindset has helped her avoid heartbreak.
Simi also pointed out that this approach applies beyond romantic relationships. She applies the same rule to her friendships and family. “This isn’t only for relationships. If I have friends that make me feel unsafe, I’m ready to cut it off because I have anxiety,” she revealed.
She acknowledged that people you love can still hurt you, but emphasized that the key is knowing when to walk away for your own peace of mind.
Her story gives insight into how emotional awareness and boundaries can play a major role in protecting one’s mental well-being—especially in love and friendships.
