Shan George Returns to Nollywood After Years Away
Veteran Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Shan George, has officially announced her full return to the Nigerian film industry after being away for several years. The 54-year-old actress, who also serves as an executive in the Movie Producers Association of Nigeria, revealed that her break from Nollywood was necessary due to personal family responsibilities.
In a recent interview, George explained that her long absence was caused by the need to care for her ailing mother in Calabar. As an only child, she said she had to put her acting career on hold to focus entirely on her mother’s health.
“Well, I have been away from the industry for a couple of years, based on the fact that my mother has been ill and bedridden, and being an only child had to leave everything to go and look after her back in Calabar,” she stated.
George added that she returned to Lagos last year, in 2024, after her mother sadly passed away. “After I did the funeral, I had to come back to work,” she noted.
Since her return, the actress has already resumed filmmaking. She revealed that two of her new productions—Esther, a biblical-themed film, and Cold Beauty—are both currently in the editing phase and will be released soon.
The actress is also the Founder and CEO of the Divine Shield Film Academy, a tuition-free film school based in Calabar. Her commitment to developing talent and offering opportunities to aspiring filmmakers has been widely praised in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
Shan George began her acting journey in 1996 and has featured in several classic Nigerian movies including Outkast, Welcome to Nollywood, London Forever, A Kiss from Rose, and Blood Diamonds.
With her return, fans and industry insiders are excited to see the celebrated actress back on screen and contributing again to Nollywood’s growth. Her dedication to both her family and her craft continues to inspire many across the industry.
