Seyi Shay Slams Narrative That Men Are Not Important
Nigerian singer Seyi Shay has spoken strongly against the popular narrative that men are not important in families and society. She described the idea as complete “bullshit,” stressing that it only creates more harm than good.
Speaking during an episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, the award-winning artist explained that a father figure plays a very important role in raising a girl child. According to her, women who grow up with a father in their lives often turn out more stable and disciplined compared to those who did not have such guidance.
She argued that having a father figure gives children access to good morals and a better foundation for education. Seyi Shay added that girls who grow up with present fathers also set higher standards when choosing male friends or partners later in life.
The 39-year-old singer made it clear that dismissing the role of men is an agenda that only deepens divisions within homes. She warned that such beliefs could increase the number of broken families and produce more emotionally unstable young men and women in society.
In her words, “Most women who have a father figure in their lives are generally more stable. They had more access to good education and good morals growing up than those who don’t. Also, there is a bar when they want to get married or when they choose male friends. All these narratives of men are not important is bullshit because that’s just an agenda for more divisions in our homes.”
Seyi Shay also spoke about her personal journey and how age and experience have changed her perspective. She admitted she was thankful she did not have a daughter in her 20s because she might not have been ready to raise one at that time.
She explained that with maturity, she now has the experience, patience, and understanding required to guide her future daughter. This, she said, will help her daughter avoid the mistakes she made in her earlier years regarding men, friendships, and other aspects of life.
