Seven Doors Dominates at AMVCA with Femi Adebayo and Chioma Akpotha’s Big Wins

The 11th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) witnessed a spectacular night, with the hit series Seven Doors claiming the spotlight by bagging three awards. Femi Adebayo and Chioma Akpotha earned top honors as Best Lead Actor and Best Lead Actress, respectively, for their outstanding performances in the series.

Femi Adebayo, known for his role as a troubled king and the husband of Amaka (played by Chioma Chukwuka), triumphed over several notable actors. His win came after competing against Gideon Okeke (Tokunbo), Bucci Franklin (The Weekend), Femi Branch (House of Ga’a), Thapelo Makoena (Skeleton Coast), Bimbo Manuel (Princess On A Hill), Adedimeji Lateef (Lisabi: The Uprising), and Stan Nze (Suspicion).

Chioma Chukwuka also saw victory, securing the Best Lead Actress award for her role in Seven Doors. She bested a strong lineup of contenders, including Gbugbemi Ejeye (Farmer’s Bride), Uzoamaka Onuoha (Agemo), Uche Montana (Thin Line), Uzoamaka Aniunoh (Phoenix Fury), Hilda Dokubo (The Uprising: Wives On Strike 3), and Bimbo Ademoye (Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre).

Seven Doors, which received 11 nominations, also took home the Best Score/Music award, with Tolu Obanro recognized for his contribution to the series’ soundtrack.

In addition to Seven Doors‘s success, the movie Lisabi: The Uprising also shone at the event, winning three awards: Best Make-up (Hakeem Effects), Best Art Direction, and Best Indigenous Movie.

Other notable winners included Freedom Way, which won Best Movie, and The Legend of the Vagabond- Queen of Lagos, which claimed Best Cinematography. Mai DunDun was named Best Documentary, while Iyor Prosper took home Best Digital Content Creator. Brukaci won Best Short Film, and Nigerian Idol Season Nine was awarded Best Unscripted MNet Original. Other awards included Best Supporting Actress (Mercy Aigbe – Farmer’s Bride), Best Supporting Actor (Gabriel Afolayan – Inside Life), Trailblazer Award (Kayode Kasum), and Industry Merit Award recipients Nkem Owoh and Sani Mu’azu.

The AMVCA, organized annually by Multichoice, honors exceptional achievements in Nollywood and across the African entertainment industry, spanning film, television, and digital content creation. The event is held in Lagos, Nigeria, and is broadcast live on Africa Magic channels. Winners are determined by a mix of public voting and a panel of judges.

The nominations for the 11th AMVCA covered works released between January 1 and December 31, 2024, celebrating the most remarkable contributions to the industry during that period.
