Senate Confirms Dr Bernard Doro as Nigeria’s Minister

The Nigerian Senate on Thursday confirmed Dr Bernard Mohammed Doro as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria following a smooth screening session that lasted less than 30 minutes. Lawmakers expressed confidence in his experience, professionalism, and leadership capacity.

Born on January 23, 1969, in Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, Doro becomes the third minister from Plateau in the current administration. He brings over 20 years of experience in clinical practice, pharmaceutical management, and strategic leadership in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom. His academic credentials include degrees in Pharmacy and Law, an MBA in IT-driven business strategy, and a Master’s in Advanced Clinical Practice.

During the screening, Doro pledged to promote fairness, transparency, and inclusivity in Nigeria’s humanitarian initiatives. “I will create a humanitarian ecosystem that is inclusive, guided by impartiality and independence,” he assured the Senate. Satisfied with his credentials and vision, lawmakers confirmed his nomination without objection.

Doro’s nomination followed the elevation of his predecessor, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, to National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress. The confirmation process was initiated after President Bola Tinubu formally wrote to the Senate, as required under Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the letter during plenary and referred it to the Committee of the Whole for immediate consideration.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga described Doro as a highly qualified professional, highlighting his frontline experience with the NHS in the United Kingdom across urgent care, walk-in centres, GP practices, and hospital settings. Doro is also an Independent Prescriber and Advanced Clinical Practitioner.

With this confirmation, Dr Bernard Doro is expected to be sworn in as a member of the Federal Executive Council at the next official meeting, marking a significant step in strengthening Nigeria’s humanitarian and health leadership.
