Sarz Reveals He Has Never Experienced 24-Hour Electricity in Nigeria
Ace music producer and executive Sarz (Osabuohien Osaretin) has opened up about the challenges poor infrastructure, especially irregular electricity supply, poses to Nigeria’s creative industry.
In a recent episode of the Afropolitan Podcast, Sarz explained that being inspired without access to electricity often leads to wasted potential for creatives.
The 36-year-old said, “I was born and raised in this country and I have never experienced electricity for 24 hours. There are times when I wake up feeling inspired and I want to create music but there is no light. Sometimes, even when you want to buy fuel, they tell you there is a strike or scarcity. Then you end up doing nothing, and the potential just goes to waste.”
He added, “As a creative person, you need to be mentally charged to perform at your best. So, when infrastructure is lacking at the moment you are ready to work, it becomes a major challenge.”
Sarz stressed that reliable infrastructure is critical for Nigeria’s entertainment industry to thrive. He said the lack of consistent power and other essential facilities limits the growth and global competitiveness of Nigerian creatives.
