Rivers Assembly Urges Governor Fubara to Submit Commissioner Nominees and Prepare Budget

The Rivers State House of Assembly has called on Governor Siminalayi Fubara to quickly submit a list of commissioner nominees for screening and confirmation. The Assembly also directed the governor to prepare and present the state’s budget for the remaining months of the year.

During its first plenary after the six-month emergency rule, the House, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, emphasized the need for the executive to act without delay. Lawmakers noted that appointing commissioners is crucial for effective governance, as it will allow ministries to function properly and support state development plans.

The Assembly further stressed the urgency of an Appropriation Law to guide spending in the last quarter of the year. According to members, without a proper budget, critical projects and government activities could face setbacks.

Speaker Amaewhule, presiding over the session, highlighted that the resolutions were necessary to stabilize governance and ensure transparency in the management of state resources.

The resolutions come at a time when the political atmosphere in Rivers has been tense, following months of emergency rule. Observers say the Assembly’s call reflects growing concerns over delays in governance and the need to restore normalcy in state administration.

Political analysts also believe that the swift submission of commissioner nominees will signal unity and help the governor build a stronger working relationship with the House. Meanwhile, residents and stakeholders are closely watching to see how Governor Fubara responds to these demands.

The developments underscore the importance of collaboration between the executive and legislative arms in ensuring good governance in Rivers State.
