President Tinubu Set to Present 2026 Budget to National Assembly This Friday

President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to present the 2026 Appropriation Bill to a joint session of the National Assembly on Friday, December 19, 2025. This presentation marks the formal submission of the federal government’s proposed budget for legislative review and approval.

Ahead of the event, a formal notification from the Presidency is expected to be read on the floor of the House of Representatives on Thursday when plenary resumes. The notification will inform lawmakers and National Assembly staff of the President’s scheduled appearance.

The plan for the budget presentation was detailed in a letter dated December 17, 2025. The letter was signed by Adm. Essien Eyo Essien, Secretary of Human Resources and Staff Development, on behalf of the Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana. Copies of the letter were also sent to the Deputy Clerk and heads of various departments.

According to the communication, President Tinubu, in his role as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, will present the proposed 2026 budget at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.

The letter also specified security and access arrangements. All accredited personnel were instructed to be at their duty posts by 11:00 a.m., as access to the National Assembly complex will be restricted after that time. Non-accredited persons were advised to stay away from the complex. Staff members, except for top clerical officials, including the Clerk, Deputy Clerk, and their deputies, were instructed to park their vehicles at designated areas at the Annex or the new car park near the National Assembly Service (NASS) Gate.

The annual budget presentation is a key part of Nigeria’s fiscal process, allowing the National Assembly to review, amend, and approve the federal government’s proposed expenditures and revenue plans for the coming year.
