Portable Threatens Carter Efe Ahead of Celebrity Boxing Match in Lagos
Controversial Nigerian street-pop singer Portable has issued a strong warning to comedian and content creator Carter Efe ahead of their highly anticipated celebrity boxing match scheduled for May 1 in Lagos. The bout is expected to take place at the Federal Palace Hotel as part of a major fight night event titled Chaos in the Ring.
In a video currently circulating widely on social media, Portable mocked Carter Efe’s preparation for the fight and questioned the quality of his training. The singer also criticised the person coaching Carter Efe, fellow musician Small Doctor, suggesting that the training would not be enough to stop him in the ring.
Speaking in Pidgin English during the video, Portable insisted that even if Carter Efe spends months training in the gym, he still believes he will emerge victorious. The singer also advised his opponent to find a better coach if he hopes to stand a chance during the fight.
Portable went further, recounting a past encounter with Small Doctor, claiming that he once fought the singer at the house of businessman Abu Abel and defeated him in the confrontation. According to Portable, that experience later pushed Small Doctor to begin learning boxing.
The upcoming bout is attracting widespread attention across Nigeria’s entertainment and sports communities, especially because Portable already has some experience in celebrity boxing. The singer previously participated in exhibition matches, claiming victories over actor Charles Okocha and entertainer Speed Darlington. These previous fights helped build his reputation as a controversial but entertaining figure in celebrity combat sports.
The Portable versus Carter Efe fight will headline the Chaos in the Ring fight night, a boxing event officially approved by the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control. Balmoral Group Promotions are organising the event in partnership with AK Promotions, a boxing promotion company founded by former world boxing champion Amir Khan. The fight night will also be streamed globally on the sports broadcasting platform DAZN, allowing audiences around the world to watch the event.
Aside from the celebrity bout, the event will feature several professional boxing matches involving African and international fighters. One of the key fights scheduled for the night will be a cruiserweight clash between Ezra Arenyeka and Godday Appah. Organisers say the event is designed to combine entertainment with professional boxing competition, attracting both sports fans and followers of Nigerian pop culture.
With social media already buzzing about the rivalry between Portable and Carter Efe, the upcoming match is expected to draw significant attention and large audiences. Many fans see the event as part of a growing trend where entertainment personalities step into the boxing ring, blending celebrity culture with combat sports to create unique sporting spectacles across Africa.
