Phyno denies rumours of advising Igbos not to invest in Lagos
Popular Nigerian rapper Chibuzor Azubike Nelson, better known as Phyno, has openly denied false rumours claiming he advised Igbos against investing in Lagos. The award-winning artiste dismissed the reports as completely fake and misleading.
The controversy began after a social media user with the handle JustSociety4All shared a now-deleted tweet. The post claimed that Phyno sold his ₦10 billion estate in Lagos to a Libyan Arab businessman. The user also alleged that the rapper warned Igbos not to invest in “Yoruba land” because of supposed tribal issues.
In the fake post, Phyno was falsely quoted saying that the last general elections opened his eyes to deep hatred toward the Igbo people. It also claimed he planned to relocate his estate to Enugu where, according to the fake quote, his property would remain safe for future generations.
The post caused a wave of reactions online, stirring tensions and attracting criticism from many who believed the story. However, Phyno quickly responded to the rumour through his social media page. The Enugu-born rapper made it clear that he never made such a statement and had no part in the spread of such divisive content.
Clearly upset, Phyno called out the individual behind the post, writing: “You are a fool for cooking up this type of lie!!! Where are you heading with this? Anwu nta.” The Igbo phrase “Anwu nta” loosely translates to “small-minded person” or “a fool.”
His statement showed just how frustrated he was with people spreading lies that could create division between ethnic groups. Phyno stressed that he never advised Igbos to stop investing in any region, including Lagos.
Following his response, many of his fans and fellow celebrities stood by him. They praised him for speaking up and not allowing fake news to go unchecked. Supporters also condemned the act of using social media to spread ethnic hate and urged others to verify claims before sharing them.
Phyno’s firm denial has helped calm the situation, reminding the public about the importance of unity and truth in a time where misinformation spreads quickly.
