Phina Shares What Inspired Her Latest Hit ‘Nakwamini’

Tanzanian singer and songwriter Phina has shared the story behind her latest single, Nakwamini, a collaboration with Nigerian media personality Enioluwa Adeoluwa. The song was officially released on 13 February 2026 and has quickly captured the attention of audiences across Africa.

During an interview with HipTV, Phina explained that the song was inspired by the long-distance connection between her and Enioluwa. The track, mostly in Swahili, was created during a studio session they shared and reflects a personal experience between the two artists.

“I recently collaborated with Enioluwa on a song called Nakwamini, and it’s mostly in Swahili. The main idea behind it, or how it came into existence, was the long-distance relationship that we have,” Phina said.

The distance between them played a key role in shaping the song’s theme. With Enioluwa based in Nigeria and Phina in Tanzania, their separation became part of the inspiration for the music.

“He’s based in Nigeria, and I’m based in Tanzania, and that kind of became a thing for us at the time,” she added, highlighting the emotional connection behind the track.

Phina also praised Enioluwa’s talent and adaptability in the studio. “He is so smart and very fast. It doesn’t take him long to understand or learn what he’s supposed to sing,” she noted.

The friendship between Phina and Enioluwa began when they met at the wedding of Priscilla Ojo and Juma Jux in Tanzania. They bonded over shared interests, which later led to the musical collaboration.

Phina also spoke about her growing exposure to Nigerian culture, including learning the Yoruba language. She expressed excitement about working with more Nigerian creatives in future projects.

Having released multiple singles, Phina continues to refine her musical style while collaborating with artists across Africa. She previously worked with Nigerian singer Qing Madi and hopes to pursue more collaborations with Nigerian artists in her upcoming projects.
