Peter Okoye Clears Air on Kidnapping Case, Says He Is Not a Thief

Popular Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, known as Mr P and one half of the iconic music duo P Square, has publicly distanced himself from a kidnapping case involving two Ghanaian women, following reports that someone bearing his name is wanted by the Ghana Police Service.

The controversy began after a press briefing by the Ghana Police on Friday, May 9, 2025, where authorities revealed that two Ghanaian women, Anastasia Baidoo Arthur and Evelyn Konadu, had been kidnapped in Nigeria under false pretenses of marriage proposals. The suspects listed included one Peter Okoye, aged 31, along with Paulinus Chidokwe, Chinoso Okafor, and Christian Emeka.

Reacting swiftly to the confusion, the music star took to his verified X (formerly Twitter) account to strongly deny any involvement. He stressed that he is not the Peter Okoye mentioned in the police report and demanded that the authorities be more specific to avoid misleading the public.

In his post, Mr P wrote in Pidgin English:
“Abeg, make una dey specifically dey specify which Peter Okoye. I no be thief.”

Why did Mr P respond to the police report?
Mr P responded to clarify that he is not involved in the kidnapping case and to protect his reputation. His name was mistakenly associated with the incident simply because it matched that of one of the suspects.

The Ghana Police have since confirmed that the two women have been rescued and are currently cooperating with investigators as the case unfolds. While the police continue their probe, Mr P has urged both the media and the authorities to exercise caution and clearly identify individuals to prevent false accusations.

The singer’s response has drawn support from fans and fellow celebrities who recognize his long-standing reputation and believe the misunderstanding must be addressed swiftly to avoid further damage.
