Peter Obi Condemns Assault On Female Corps Member In Anambra

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has strongly condemned the reported assault on a female NYSC member in Anambra State by members of a local vigilante group. In a message shared on his official X account, he described the incident as inhumane, primitive, and a serious attack on human dignity.

Obi said he was deeply troubled after learning about the brutal treatment of Jenifer Elobor, the corps member involved in the incident. He noted that such a cruel act should not happen in a nation that is working hard to move forward in 2025 and build a peaceful, modern society.

As a former governor of Anambra State, Obi said he felt ashamed and heartbroken that such barbaric behaviour could occur in the state. He explained that no society should accept or tolerate the abuse, humiliation, or dehumanisation of its citizens, especially young women and other vulnerable groups.

He also expressed disappointment that people in positions of trust could engage in such shocking acts of violence. According to him, the attack is not only against one person but against the values shared by all Nigerians.

Obi further called on security agencies to arrest and prosecute everyone involved in the assault. He stressed that those responsible must be punished to set a clear example and discourage others from committing similar crimes in the future.

In addition to prosecution, he urged the government to introduce stronger policies and community protections to keep vulnerable people safe. He said that every Nigerian deserves to live with dignity and without fear of violence.

Why does Peter Obi believe this incident should not be ignored? He believes that if society remains silent, more innocent people will become victims and the value of human life will continue to decline.

Obi concluded his statement by saying that human dignity must always come first, and a society that fails to protect its people is at risk of losing its moral direction.
